To fulfill my order, The Watering Can placed an order with a third party. At some point The Watering Can must have known a mistake was made; they must have gotten an itemized invoice from the third party else how could they arrive at the precise amount of $165.85? If The Watering Can were ethical they would have either corrected the mistake or called me immediately and apologized so that I might have time to get flowers from a different florist. I received no phone call, no email—just a credit card charge of $165.85. They didn’t email me a receipt probably because they knew they’d have to itemize it, telling me what the items were and how much each cost.

The Watering Can is unethical and incompetent; avoid them! For my mother’s funeral I called The Watering Can and placed a simple order: flowers from my in-laws for about $150. Dennis took my order, credit card number, cell phone number, and email address. He said he’d email me a receipt.

I drove to The Watering Can and told Dennis in person that what was delivered to the funeral home was not what I ordered. I could tell he was already aware of the mistake. He apologized and said he had neglected to specify flowers when he placed the order with a third party. He admitted that for $150 I could have gotten a large display of flowers. I gave back to Dennis the afghan throw, but not the statue (which I had given to my sister as a gift). Dennis thought that to be fair I should return the statue as well. I told him that if I returned it then he’d have everything back and would be right back where he started. But what about me? My in-laws were depending on me to get a $150 display of flowers to the funeral to show their respects. They lost that chance. The Watering Can owed us at least the cost of that 15 inch statue.

So at my mother’s funeral service what did The Watering Can deliver for my in-laws? A folded-up memorial afghan throw (with sentiments unsuitable for in-laws) and a 15-inch-tall cement statue of an angel holding flowers about 4 inches in diameter! I ordered flowers, and for $150 it should have been a large beautiful bouquet.

I called my credit card company to see if The Watering Can had charged me yet; I was told yes, and the charge was $165.85. I checked The Watering Can website and it showed many flower options, but sold no throws or statues. I checked my email, but The Watering Can did not email me a receipt.

About a week later I was emailed a “receipt”—not a scanned original but one typed out in the body of the email—which included acknowledgment of the return of the throw. By amazing coincidence, the throw and the statue were exactly the same overpriced amount: $75. With delivery & tax it totaled $165.85. I faxed a copy of this to the credit card company, and they—not The Watering Can—issued me a credit for the return. They are still going to charge me for the statue since I didn’t return it. . . .

My in-laws, who live out of state and who speak English poorly, wanted to show their respects for my mother, and asked me if I could have $150 worth of flowers delivered for the funeral. The Watering Can let me down, and thus I let down my in-laws. There was just one chance to do it right; we could not re-do my mother’s funeral. The Watering Can IS A FLORIST, for Pete’s sake! and they couldn’t deliver flowers to a funeral home right down the street from their business.

Despite returning the afghan throw, The Watering Can did not issue a credit for the return to my credit card. My credit card company said it needed documentation that I in fact returned the throw. I called The Watering Can and asked them to email me the original itemized receipt that was promised me, and an acknowledgment that I returned the throw. Watering Can employee Kaylee searched for the receipt but couldn’t find it. She said when she finds it she’d email it to me. As for documentation showing I returned the throw, she would ask Dennis about it.
